Angels Sanguine - War Is Coming a.k.a My First Game This Decade

Today is a momentous day dear reader! December 9th 2010 will forever go down in history as the day I returned to playing Warhammer 40,000!

What? That wasn't too much of an anticlimax was it?

I think the last time I played was somewhere between 1998 and 2000. Rusty is an understatement. I missed all of 4th edition and 5th is taking some getting used to. Here's hoping practice makes perfect! Army list and a couple of pics coming up, and a report to follow tomorrow.

From the Chopping Board - Chaplain and BA Character Kit Bash

Back in July I did a post called 'Chopping Board Teaser'. It was essentially a bit of a space filler, a way around 'writers block'...i.e at the time I didn't have too much to post so I took pictures of lots of little bits and filed a post with them!

To this day it is my most viewed post on this blog...

Stormraven Part 3

A short update of progress on the Stormraven. Things are starting to come together...

Stormraven Part 2

It's been a busy week for all of us waiting for the Storm Raven model thanks to a certain 'leak'. This means more pressure to finish mine, shucks. Also a look at the 'official' model and a few comparisons...

Stormraven Part 1

So there's a good chance that the official Stormraven will be out in the first quarter on 2011. Guess I'd better get on building mine before it becomes obsolete!

Army Painter Spray vs. Citadel Spray Gun

As mentioned in my post last week I used Army Painter's Dragon Red spray to base coat my Angels Sanguine. This was after I fell out with Citadel's Spray Gun. Read on to find out why, some pro's and con's of each, and a couple of pointers I picked up along the way.

Double Treat! I'm Back + Angels Sanguine

Hello dear Readers!

So, it's been far too long since the last update and we have a little catching up to do!

We have a (slightly) more proper look at my Angels Sanguine redux, a (messy) look at their future transport options and a couple of useful other bits along the way!

Sabbat Worlds Signing!

I saw on Dn Abnett's blog that he and some of the other Black Library writers would be at Forbidden Planet today here in London. So I headed down this evening in order to get my hands on an early copy of Sabbat Worlds, meet the authors, and overall geek out a bit!

Art Shoppage!

Hi all,

As I mentioned in my last post my camera got stolen by some nasty little man on the street who decided to pick on my Mrs. Basically I've still not got a new camera - I'm going to be selling one of my bicycles in order to buy something suitable.

In the mean time I might try and post something here and there using my (crappy) iphone camera like this post.

A Sudden Lack Of Technology

So, what's a blog with no pictures?

A pretty rubbish blog!

Stripping Part 2

As promised, following on from yesterdays first post regarding getting old paint off older miniatures, here's part two looking at the 2nd method I experimented with.

Stripping for Beginners!

As in removing paint, not the sexy dancing!

I've decided to make my little experiment into something of a tutorial/published learning curve here on the blog for you to all to take pleasure in my potential success or failure!

I went back to my parents house recently and dug out a whole bunch of old bits and pieces. A few of my first few models painted - old metal Cadians, Valhallan Ice Warriors, old Eldar and a few scattered Space Marines. They're all various different colours and fit in with very little I currently have or use so I decided to try to strip the paint from them to make them future projects.

Thoughts: The unpainted list of TERROR

This post came from the dawning realisation that 90% of my miniatures are pretty much unpainted and that to get to where I want to be with the standard of my units I had a whole lot of work to do. After a couple of years not painting anything it's a pretty daunting prospect. Here's what's giving me nightmares:

Chopping Board Teaser

Hey all, after the older pictures the other day I thought I'd put up some slightly more current WIP info. I'll be adding to and expanding the work in progress elements on here over the next week or so as I get pictures done of all the half finished projects I've been working on (there's a whole lot).

Here are the mechanical arms for my Ork Big Mek conversion. He's going to be armed with a burna and kustom force field (KFF). I'm not a huge fan of the KFF back pack so thought I'd build something a bit more adventurous.
The two non-weapon arms are the KFF projectors, made from the Grot prod from the Grot box set. You can see the before and after here with the prongs on and then removed. I've made him bionic arms too, I'll post a picture of those soon.

Next up an admittedly slightly less exciting picture, a Loota deffgun plus a kustom mega-blasta from the Burna Boy/Loota box = kustom mega-blasta arm for my Killa Kans! Got two of these on the go, one thing that's actually made it to being painted!

O.K, my bad for the blurry photo, didn't realise until I uploaded just now so apologies there. This is an arm from a Nurgle Terminator Lord-type-character I started working in a very long time ago! Based on the Terminator Chaplain model this arm has the fist swapped to one from an older Chaos Lord power armour model. Again, more pictures of this dude will follow soon (it says teaser in the title so I can't give too much away!)

Enough of that for now. Next post will show progress on one of these models in more detail so you won't be left guessing quite so much!

Hope you've had a good weekend,

Old Pictures

Ok, to start off we have some older models I photo'd just to have a bit of practice with the camera set up and showing you where I'm coming from model wise. So, without further ado, here's my first posted pictures:

Nurgle Daemon Prince

Old Space Wolf Kit Bash

Gorkamorka Ork

Blood Angels Sgt

Custom Ork Bike

Varying quality through these pictures but hopefully shows my love of customising my models. The Ork bike was good fun to build, something like 40+ pieces in total. The Daemon Prince was my first attempt at anything properly using green stuff - sculpting the stretched skin from the Obliterator shoulder through to his tentacle arm.

Feel free to let me know what you think of these old timers folks!

Hi there and welcome to the first post of my new blog.

To set things off, some explanations:

Why call it 'Rebel's Grotto'?
Do you know how much of a pain it is to title a blog?? A BIG pain. My name on various forums is 'Rebel Grot' so it tied in well with that. Also, see the definitions beneath the title there? That kind of sums up what I want to do - something a little different (hopefully) in my little corner of the big bad interweb, interlaced with some 'attractive features'!

Why start a blog?
Simple. I need help. I have unpainted miniatures which often seem without number. Unpainted Blood Angels, unpainted Orks, unpainted Space get the idea. I want to work through my collection (plus new projects of course) and learn and improve on the way. Having the world to critique and comment can only aid me!

Why do I do this to myself?
I've been into 40k since the mid 90's, my brother and I started playing during 2nd edition and I've always been hooked. I love modelling, like painting but hardly ever play. Getting my forces painted means I can get them out there onto the tables (battlefields) of the 'real' world!
I've just started paying attention to Warhammer Fantasy and to Secrets of the Third Reich systems so expect to see elements from those games pop up here and there in the future. Most of this will be focused on our beloved grim darkness of the 41st millennium though, so fear not those of you with afflictions to WWII and High Elves!

Enough of 'Why?', here's hoping you all like what you see over the coming weeks and months.

Thanks for checking in,
